Probably sailed aboard the ship "The Bachilor" with Lion Gardiner in service to the Prince of Orange. This would mean they were part of the reformation movement and lived voluntarily in Holland out of disagreement with the English government. It has been suggested that Hurlbut may not be the original spelling of their name (or in fact not the name at all when in England.)
