Note: Sometime around 1910 William and his brother-in-law Alfred Peterson got into a disagreement. It's not known what caused the argument nor if it was even a sensible argument, but it is known that William was very inebriated and while Alfred was milking his cows, William stormed into the barn with his Army-issue Colt 38 intent on killing Alfred. Alfred was able to disarm William and told him to go home. William never asked Alfred to return the gun and it remains in the possession of the Bly family today. It is said that William used to throw silver dollars out over the lake at the homestead and shoot at them. The lake was called Peterson lake but may be Store Lake or Syverson Lake today.
